Flames
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux
In this visual novel, you take on the role of a deceased person who embarks on a journey to the World of the Dead (Yomi) to be duly judged for their actions in life.
Along the way, you must avoid numerous traps set by non-human entities, undergo trials alongside fellow dead travelers, and recover the lost memories of your former life.
The story is based on Japanese mythology, featuring folklore characters, and has elements of Buddhism and Shintoism.
While alive, you were a member of 19th-century Japanese society, which basically means you experienced a period of transition, for Japan was leaving behind the Edo period and entering the Meiji period.

Yes, the game may look cute. Yes, the game may have a lot of cute and wholesome scenes. But beware, wary traveler, for this is still a story inspired by folklore, and if you have an ounce of knowledge when it comes to mythology, you can probably foresee what's to come. Scenes will range from the merely unsettling to the downright disturbing and gory. Be aware that a lot of endings will also feature your "spiritual destruction" - or in other words, death scenes. This is not a horror game, but horror elements can pop up from time to time.
For now, you can only play a DEMO, but the full game will be long. Can't tell exactly how long yet, but I have the whole story laid down, so I can TELL it is going to be long. The narrative has a somewhat episodic nature though, so my plan is to keep releasing updates on a semi-regular basis, each one advancing the story further. I actually think "Flames" will be a lot more fun to play that way, as opposed to all in one go.
I am aware the scope of the project is quite huge, but I have some hope that "Flames" will grow into something interesting enough that other people will want to join me. And, for what it concerns me, I will keep doing my best.

Notice: I'm trying all, but will keep the ones I feel more confortable with in the long run.
